What is the Space Apps Challenge?
Part of the Open Government Partnership, Space Apps is an annual event that pulls citizens together regardless of their background or skill level. This is an international hackathon that occurs over 48 hours in cities around the world. Because of citizens like you, we continue to grow each year. If you haven't already, join us to share ideas and engage with open data to address real-world problems, on Earth and in space. Work with a team to solve challenges that could help change the world.
This is a technology development event that draws on the talents and initiative of bright minded volunteers – developers, engineers, technologists, designers, and anyone with a passion and desire to make an immediate impact on the world or with an interest in Earth, space, and open data.
This is an event that embraces engagement and collaborations across borders, sectors and populations to bring about paradigm-shifting innovation.
This is an opportunity to showcase, build awareness and encourage participants to use NASA data to solve complex problems related to both earth and space.

We need YOUR Problem-Solving Skills!
1,300 projects were developed during the 2016 Space Apps, many open source solutions with immediate value to NASA and the global community. The most popular challenges included creating a crowdsourced platform to compare environmental changes with symptoms of respiratory disease, an educational app to help young students locate the moon, and an app to support local drone operators.
